Gesture Synth is a free browser-based music instrument. There is nothing to download and no account to create: pick a sound style, allow camera access for hand tracking—or switch to keyboard mode—and start playing chords, shaping energy, and recording a short performance in minutes.

How it works

1. Choose a style: Dreamy, Lofi, or Cinematic—each with its own chords, tempo, and visuals.
2. Allow camera access for hand tracking, or press “Use keyboard instead” to play without a camera.
3. Move your hand (or press keys) to trigger chords, control the energy, and record your clip.

Hand gestures

In hand mode, the browser estimates your hand position and finger count locally: one to four raised fingers each select a different chord, a closed fist pauses the music, and raising or lowering your hand shapes the energy of the performance. Camera frames are processed on your device and are never uploaded, recorded, or stored.

Keyboard mode

The same instrument works without a camera. Press the number keys 1–4 to trigger chords, Space to pause and resume, and move your pointer up and down to control energy—useful on devices without a webcam or when you prefer not to grant camera permission.
