A computer keyboard is familiar and has predictable response time. It makes a good first test for browser audio, and it removes camera permissions, lighting, and framing from the setup. You can focus on listening to the chord changes and learning the rhythm of a style.
Keyboard mode also makes the product accessible on desktops without a camera and for users who prefer not to use video input.
Build a short progression instead of random notes
Start with two chord states rather than pressing every control. Alternate between them on a steady count, then add a third state after the change feels predictable. A short repeatable pattern is easier to evaluate than a dense series of unrelated actions.
In Gesture Synth, the available chord choices belong to the selected style. That means the keyboard can be used as a performance surface without requiring you to identify notes or construct a progression from scratch.
Use energy changes deliberately
When a tool offers an energy control, use it to create sections: quieter at the beginning, fuller in the middle, then quieter again before ending. This creates contrast even when you use only a few chords.
If you later switch to hand tracking, the same idea maps naturally to moving your hand lower or higher in frame. The musical plan stays the same while the input method changes.
Move from practice to recording
Once the pattern feels stable, record a short take. Do not aim for a perfect performance first; aim for a clear start, one contrast point, and a deliberate ending. Review the result with headphones if possible, then make one targeted change for the next take.
