One-Handed Musical Instrument
A Full Instrument for One Hand
Most instruments demand two hands. Gesture Synth needs only one: wave a single hand at your camera, or rest one hand on the number keys. Free in your browser—no download, no account.

Why one hand
Music Should Not Require Two Hands
Pianos, guitars, flutes, and drums are all built around two working hands. If you are recovering from an injury, living with limited mobility or a limb difference, or simply holding a baby with your other arm, most instruments quietly lock you out.
Adapted one-handed instruments exist, but they are specialized, expensive, and hard to try before buying. Gesture Synth takes a different approach: a complete instrument whose entire control surface fits in a single hand—free, in the browser you already have.
Two ways to play with one hand
Pick the Mode That Fits Your Hand
Hand-tracking mode
One hand in front of the camera: 1–4 raised fingers choose chords, hand height shapes energy, a closed fist pauses.
No touching anything—camera frames stay on your device
Keyboard mode
One hand on the keyboard: number keys 1–4 trigger chords, Space pauses and resumes, and pointer height shapes energy.
Works with mouse, trackpad, or touchscreen drag
An honest boundary: Gesture Synth is a playful instrument, not a certified assistive or medical device. It is genuinely playable with one hand, but it does not replace professionally adapted instruments or occupational therapy.

FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I really play with just one hand?
Yes. In hand-tracking mode, a single hand does everything: raised fingers choose chords, hand height shapes energy, and a closed fist pauses. In keyboard mode, one hand on the number keys 1–4 and Space covers the full instrument.
Is Gesture Synth a medical or adaptive device?
No. It is a music toy designed for playful experimentation, not a certified assistive or therapeutic device. Many one-handed players find it genuinely usable, but it is not a substitute for professionally adapted instruments or therapy.
Which mode works better with limited hand mobility?
Keyboard mode is usually easier: it needs only four number keys and the Space bar, and pointer height can be controlled with a mouse, trackpad, or touchscreen drag. Hand-tracking mode requires holding up distinct finger counts in front of the camera.
Do I need to download anything or create an account?
No. The instrument runs entirely in your web browser, free, with no account and no installation.
Does the camera upload my video?
No. Hand tracking processes camera frames locally in your browser. The live camera feed is never sent to a server or stored anywhere.
